Qualify for Autonomous Trading

Autonomous trading allows supported AI platforms to place trades in a separate, funded AI Partition without requiring your approval for each order. To qualify, you must meet the following requirements:

Have an eligible account

Autonomous trading is available to individual, non-margin IBKR accounts. Joint, retirement, advisor-managed, organizational and Lite accounts are not eligible.

Complete trading requirements

Execute at least 10 trades of $100 or more each over a two-week period using Review & Approve mode, where you approve and submit each AI order.

Coming soon: Clients can complete an eligibility test in lieu of the trading requirement.

Once activated, your AI can execute permitted trades within your funded partition. You retain responsibility for all trading activity and can revoke access at any time.

IBKR AI Integration connects supported AI platforms, including ChatGPT, Claude, Grok and Perplexity, to authorized IBKR account information through the Model Context Protocol (MCP). It supports research, portfolio analysis, monitoring and trade instruction preparation.

Unlike a standalone AI tool, IBKR AI Integration gives your AI access to your authorized account data, global market access across 75,000+ stocks, options and ETFs, and monitoring tools such as watchlists and Price Alerts, combined with a professional execution platform when you're ready to trade.

The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open standard that enables AI applications to securely connect to external platforms and tools in a consistent, standardized way. Originally developed by Anthropic, it acts as a universal connector, allowing AI assistants to access a platform's data and features through a single, unified interface.

Interactive Brokers acts as an MCP server, giving connected AI platforms access to a defined set of tools and account actions, such as checking order status or retrieving portfolio data, exclusively on your behalf and only after your explicit authorization. IBKR retains full control of authentication, and your login credentials are never passed to the AI platform. You can revoke access at any time through Client Portal.

Make sure you have an active Interactive Brokers account. Open your AI platform of choice (Claude, ChatGPT, Grok, or Perplexity) and search for "Interactive Brokers" in its connector directory. Select the IBKR connector, log in securely through IBKR's own login screen, and authorize access to your account.

Using a different AI app? Any AI application that supports MCP, including Claude Code, ChatGPT Codex, Cursor, and more, can connect. In your AI application, look for Add MCP Server or Custom Connector, then enter: https://api.ibkr.com/v1/api/mcp-public

IBKR AI Integration supports ChatGPT, Claude, Grok and Perplexity, along with any other AI tool that supports Model Context Protocol, such as Claude Code, ChatGPT Codex and Cursor. Gemini support is coming soon.

IBKR does not charge an additional fee to connect a supported AI application. Any subscription fees charged by your AI provider, and standard IBKR account, market data and trading charges, may still apply.

With standard AI Integration, no. ChatGPT, Claude, Grok, and Perplexity support analysis and research workflows and can generate trade instructions, but you review and submit every order yourself. Eligible clients can add IBKR Autonomous Trading, which allows supported AI to execute trades automatically based on criteria you set, within a dedicated AI Partition.

IBKR Autonomous Trading lets eligible clients authorize supported AI, connected through MCP, to execute supported trades based on criteria they set, within a dedicated AI Partition, without confirming each order individually.

An AI Partition is a dedicated account partition under one parent General Investment Account. It limits the cash, products and trading authority available to connected AI, so Autonomous Trading activity is contained to funds and permissions you assign.

An AI Partition is funded with cash transferred from its parent IBKR account. Funding limits apply, and position transfers into the partition are not supported.

IBKR Autonomous Trading supports eligible stocks and equity options with Market, Limit, Stop and Stop-Limit order types using Day Time-in-Force, subject to account permissions and fixed product restrictions. Margin trading, short selling, fractional shares, penny stocks, CLPs and Canadian stocks are not supported.

You can revoke the connection at any time through Manage Third-Party Consents in Client Portal. Revoking access does not automatically cancel pending or partially filled orders.

IBKR Autonomous Trading is planned for eligible clients of Interactive Brokers LLC, Interactive Brokers Australia, Interactive Brokers Singapore and Interactive Brokers U.K. Availability is subject to applicable account, regulatory and product requirements.

AI Integration is valuable for active traders, long-term investors, quantitative users, and analysts managing large datasets and complex strategies, particularly those building repeatable research and monitoring workflows. IBKR Autonomous Trading is intended for eligible clients who want to set defined criteria and let supported AI act within a controlled AI Partition.

Although these risks can never be eliminated, IB's integration is designed to limit the types of products your AI provider can trade, slow the speed of the orders it submits and give you the ability to control how much of your account you let the AI trade. If you link an AI provider, including browser-based and similar agents, you are providing those AI agents with full control of your account, without any controls or limits.
